Shaped by a remarkable era, and a lifetime of craft
After art school, I found myself at the heart of that world.
At a major record company, design and music were inseparable — the sleeve was as much a part of the record as the grooves inside it, and getting that right mattered enormously. From there I moved into fashion, graphic design for one of the most iconic and visually intoxicating stores — a place that captured everything bold, glamorous, and inventive about London during that era.
A career in advertising followed, where wit, clarity, and the ability to stop someone in their tracks became the daily discipline. That grounding in craft, boldness, and visual thinking has never really left.
Art at the heart of It
Art sits at the centre of everything I make.
The work ranges from bold wall art and graphic illustrations to books, journals, and curated editions — but the thread running through all of it is the same: a belief that things should be made with care, with humour, and with a strong sense of what they look like. Colour matters. Form matters. And if something can raise a smile while it holds your attention, so much the better.
The spirit of Swinging London — that particular mix of wit, beauty, and fearless graphic energy — remains a quiet constant. Not as nostalgia, but as a set of values absorbed early and never abandoned.
Work that keeps moving forward
New designs, new collections, and new ideas the studio is always in motion.
The work spans bold wall art, graphic illustration, travel and lifestyle prints, and curated digital editions. Some pieces arrive as single designs. Others develop into full collections — the kind that grow over time as new destinations, subjects and ideas suggest themselves.
Everything is developed independently. Released when it's ready. Made with the same eye for colour, composition and character that's been there since the beginning.
Bold art, simple answers. Everything you need to know before you buy.

What is Kelvin Hughes Design?
Kelvin Hughes Design is an independent creative studio based in the UK, producing original artwork, graphic design, digital downloads, and visual publications. The work is rooted in retro and mid-century influence, modernist design principles, and a strong sense of visual storytelling. The studio operates across three distinct collections — MooLALA Store, The Departure Lounge, and Kelvin Hughes Design — each with its own character and focus.
Who is behind Kelvin Hughes Design?
Kelvin Hughes Design is a personal studio practice run by Kelvin Hughes — illustrator, graphic designer, and author. With a background shaped by experience, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for mid-century aesthetics, the studio produces work that blends retro inspiration with contemporary design sensibility.
What are the three collections?
The studio operates under three distinct brands:
MooLALA Store — Retro pop-art wall prints and playful home decor inspired by 1950s diners, cocktail culture, vintage travel, and bold mid-century colour. Warm, witty, and unapologetically retro.
The Departure Lounge — A travel poster series rooted in classic mid-century travel design. Iconic destinations, bold colour, and a nostalgic sense of place that captures the golden age of travel.
Kelvin Hughes Design — The broader studio collection. Thoughtful, graphic, and design-led original artwork and illustration shaped by modernist principles and retro influence.
Do you take custom or commission requests?
Not currently. All designs are created as part of the studio's own collections and are not available as bespoke commissions at this time.

Where can I buy your work?
You can find Kelvin Hughes Design products across four platforms:
kelvinhughesdesign.com (via Payhip) — Digital download prints, direct from the studio.
Redbubble — Physical print-on-demand products including wall prints, posters, cards, and homeware from the MooLALA Store and Kelvin Hughes Design collections.
Etsy (The Departure Lounge) — Travel poster prints and physical products from the Jet Set Destinations collection.
Amazon — Design-led visual books and publications by Kelvin Hughes.
What is the difference between buying from your website versus Redbubble or Etsy?
Buying direct from kelvinhughesdesign.com gives you a high-resolution digital file that you download, print yourself, and frame at home — giving you maximum flexibility over print size, paper choice, and framing. Redbubble and Etsy handle physical production and shipping for you, with a range of product formats available. Both routes give you access to the same artwork — it just depends on whether you prefer to print it yourself or have it shipped ready to hang.
Do you ship internationally?
Physical products ordered through Redbubble and Etsy are fulfilled and shipped by those platforms directly, and both offer international shipping. Digital downloads from kelvinhughesdesign.com are available worldwide instantly — no shipping required.

What are digital downloads?
Digital downloads are high-resolution art files that you purchase, download instantly, and print yourself at home or through a local or online print shop. There's no physical product shipped to you — you receive the file and take it from there. It's a great way to get high-quality wall art quickly, with full control over your print size, paper, and framing.
What file formats do you provide?
Digital downloads are provided as high-resolution PDF and PNG files, suitable for home printing or professional print labs.
What sizes are the files?
All digital download files are provided in A4 and US Letter (8.5" x 11") formats, suitable for standard home and office printers. Files are high resolution and designed to print crisply at the supplied size.
How do I receive my digital download after purchasing?
After completing your purchase on kelvinhughesdesign.com, you will receive an email with a download link. You can also access your files directly through your Payhip account. Downloads are available immediately after payment is confirmed.
Can I print my download at a print shop?
Yes. The files are high-resolution and suitable for printing at home, at a local print shop, or through an online print service such as Snapfish, Photobox, or Costco Photo. We recommend printing on a matte or semi-gloss paper for the best result with our designs.
Can I use the files commercially — for resale, merchandise, or business use?
No. All digital downloads are licensed for personal use only. This means you can print and display them in your own home, gift a printed copy, or use them for personal enjoyment — but you may not resell the files, use them on merchandise, reproduce them for commercial purposes, or distribute them in any form. All artwork remains the intellectual property of Kelvin Hughes Design.
Can I share the download files with others?
No. Each purchase is for a single personal licence. Files may not be shared, distributed, uploaded to file-sharing sites, or passed on to third parties. If someone else would like the artwork, they are welcome to purchase their own copy.
-
Do you sell physical prints?
Yes — physical prints and products are available through Redbubble (MooLALA Store and Kelvin Hughes Design collections) and Etsy (The Departure Lounge). These are produced on demand by the platform and shipped directly to you. Product options vary by platform but typically include wall art prints, posters, framed prints, greeting cards, and homeware.
What is print-on-demand?
Print-on-demand means each product is made to order when you purchase it, rather than being held in stock. Redbubble and Etsy handle all production, quality control, and shipping. It means there's no minimum order, a wide range of product formats, and your order is freshly made for you.
What is your returns policy on physical products?
Physical products ordered through Redbubble and Etsy are subject to each platform's own returns and refunds policy. Please refer directly to Redbubble or Etsy for details on returns, replacements, and damaged item claims.
-
Can I get a refund on a digital download?
Due to the nature of digital products, all download sales are final and non-refundable. Once a file has been delivered, it cannot be returned. Please review the product listing carefully before purchasing. If you experience a technical problem with your download — such as a corrupted file or an access issue — please contact us and we'll do our best to resolve it promptly.
I'm having trouble downloading my file. What should I do?
First, check your email for the download confirmation from Payhip, and also check your spam or junk folder. You can also log in to your Payhip account and access your purchases directly. If you're still having trouble, contact us via the Contact page and we'll get it sorted for you.
How do I contact you?
You can reach us via the Contact page on kelvinhughesdesign.com. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 2 business days.

How many designs do you have available?
There are currently between 150 and 300 designs available across all platforms and collections, with new work added regularly. The range spans retro lifestyle art, mid-century travel posters, original illustration, and graphic design prints.

New designs are added to the collections on an ongoing basis. The best way to stay up to date is to follow the studio on Redbubble or Etsy, or check back on kelvinhughesdesign.com for new additions.
What style is the artwork?
The work is rooted in mid-century and retro aesthetics — bold colour, strong graphic composition, and a visual language inspired by 1950s and 1960s design, travel posters, pop art, and modernist illustration. Each collection has its own character: MooLALA is playful and witty; Jet Set Destinations is graphic and evocative; Kelvin Hughes Design is broader and more design-led.
Do you publish books?
Yes. Kelvin Hughes Design produces design-led visual books — author-led projects that combine illustration, layout, and visual storytelling. Books are available on Amazon. Visit the Amazon author page for the current range of titles.
Is there a newsletter I can sign up to?
